How to Stop Caring About What Other People Think?

Do you occasionally find yourself not being able to resist a very common human urge, to care about what other people think? Other people’s opinion or point of view stops you from making the choices you want in life. Being who you are, taking opportunities you want in life – all influenced by other people. Here’s how you overcome the fear of judgement of other people’s opinions.

1. Everyone is mostly thinking about themselves

They are not thinking about you, they are thinking about themselves. That is selfish but also good news for you. They are also thinking the same – what do you think of them? If there is anything wrong with you, they’re too busy with their own lives to notice.

2. You can’t please everyone (or anyone)

No matter how hard you try, there will always be people with different opinions from those that you’re trying to approve. Some people only want to judge you and bring you down. Even if you do as they please, they still won’t like you.

3. What if you change and they still don’t like you?

How betrayed would you feel if you woke up as a different person tomorrow, and they still don’t approve of you? You’d be thinking: I should’ve just been myself and done my thing since they won’t like me anyway.

4. Find people that support you

What matters the most is that you have a good support system. Most definitely surround yourself with positive people, who create a positive environment for you. It’s comforting knowing you always have somewhere to go, even if certain people reject you for being who you are.

5. Accept yourself

Sometimes other people’s words or opinions affect us because deep down we believe the same, and they just validate opinions and insecurities we already have. In those cases, even if people change their mindset and become supportive and accepting of us, we might still continue to judge ourselves.

5. Life is short

We all know this Instagram quote: at the end of your life, you’ll be more worried about the things you didn’t do. Don’t waste your precious days on negativity and overthinking.
