Relax Your Mind and Improve Your Focus

When you’re stressed, it can be easier to stay focused on the stress than focus on what you need to to get through it. You may find that your thought process is becoming more scattered, making it harder for you to think clearly about anything.

Or perhaps your stress is so intense that even thinking about relaxing seems alienating, weird, and maybe even scary. But relaxation doesn’t have to be a strange out-of-body experience—or at least not very often. Even just taking a few minutes each day to relax your mind and body can have major benefits.

Not only will this help you feel more relaxed and calm at other times in your life, but it will also improve your ability to focus and concentrate as well as increase your memory retention capacity. Here are five simple ways that you can relax your mind and improve your focus every day:

Switch up your routine

Some people find that their stress levels are particularly high when they are doing the same tasks day in and day out. Instead of forcing yourself to keep going at your desk set or the same pace when you’re feeling pressured, try switching things up a little bit.

Try mixing up your tasks with something else – a new project, a different client or even something completely different like reading a book. Just switching things up can make you feel as though you are accomplishing something new and fresh, which can help your brain to relax.

Take a shower or bath

A quick shower or bath can quickly switch your focus onto another, less stressful routine. Having a wash removes any unnecessary stresses you may be carrying around with you while putting you in a more relaxed and positive mindset. A bath can be even more effective, as it’s something that many of us would usually reserve for relaxing in the evenings or at weekends.

Practice mindfulness

Many people find that doing simple mindfulness exercises can help them to relax. This could be something as simple as focusing on your breathing for a few moments, or sitting and focusing on the sensation of your chair beneath you.

Doing something as simple as this can help to relax you, while also switching your focus away from the stresses you may be experiencing.

Get close to nature

Taking to nature can be a great way to relax your body and mind. While it’s not exactly the same as going to the beach or a forest to relax, it can still be a great way to switch your focus away from the stresses of your daily life. Taking walks in natural surroundings, or even just sitting in a garden or park can be a great way to de-stress and relax.

Try a breathing exercise

Breathing exercises have become a common way of calming the mind and relaxing the body, and for good reason. Many breathing exercises involve focusing on your breathing, which can help to calm you down and help you to relax.

You don’t have to be obsessive about it either, so you can focus on your breathing for a few moments, but don’t spend too much time doing it—it should be something that you can do whenever you need a bit of a break from your normal everyday stresses.

Don’t forget about your sense of touch

Touching and rubbing items such as sand, rocks, or plants can be a great way to relax your mind. It may seem a little odd at first, but touch can be a great way to relax your mind and calm down. In fact, psychologists recommend that you try to spend at least two to three minutes rubbing each new thing you come across when out in nature. 

However, feeling your partner’s presents also can relax your mind. If you are single then you can try different toys available on to fulfill your partner’s presence and have fun!


While it might seem like trying to relax when you’re stressed is out of the question, it is actually a very simple process. You just need to take a few extra minutes each day to relax your mind and body. Try focusing on your breathing, closing your eyes and focusing on your surroundings, or applying simple mindfulness techniques to help you switch your focus.
